Crystalline, porous polymer networks (also known as covalent organic frameworks) have a wide range of potential applications, including gas storage, separations, and organic electronics. However, their utility is limited by the hydrolytically sensitive bonds (e.g. boronate esters and imines) linking most of these frameworks together. The Milner group has received funding from the American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Fund (ACS PRF) to explore new directions to prepare stable, C-C linked frameworks from petroleum feedstocks.
